SpaceX will never buy the VASIMR engine, because it is over 10 times heavier than other available electric engines when you include the weight of the power processing unit (PPU).

There have been many studies that show that the 200 kw versions of Nested Hall Effect Thrusters or Lorentz Fortz Thrusters (at well under 1 kg/kw) are 10x times lighter in weight than VASIMR (at ~ 10 kg/kw) when including the PPUs.

Any bets on whether SpaceX will buy Ad Astra at some point to put VASIMR on the MCT?
